Tivat is the centre of Tivat Municipality (population 13,630), which is the smallest municipality by area in Montenegro. It is located in the central part of the Boka, south of mount Vrmac. The municipality lies mostly south of the town. Its central part, where Tivat Airport is located, lies in fertile Grbalj valley.
Most popular areas of Tivat municipality are: Lepetane, Lastva, Radovici and some parts of Lustica peninsula.
